Counseling for Higher-Education : At Shevapet, Salem


June. 23.  Salem.  Sourashtra Vidyarthi Samskar is organised a counselling for higher education guidance for those completed Higher Secondary education.  This program me held at Nambi Kalyana Mandapam at 6.00 p.m.

     Sri. K.C. Amarnath gave welcome.  Dr. Rajesh. M.B.B.S., M.D., of Vinayaka Mission Hi-tech Medical college hospital explained various medical higher education courses and how to behave as a professional doctor.  Auditor Mr. Nandakumar, B.Com., C.A. gave explanation on Commerce graduation and its branches to students.  Sri. Dinesh, M.E., of Sona college, gave explanation of Engineering related higher studies, Srimathi. Saranya, B.Com., M.B.A, gave explanation of Business application courses and management courses and also guided the students how to get Educational Loan provided by Government at Banks.  After that T.R. Baskar gave a speech about history and culture of sourashtra community.

     Arrangements of this programme undertook by M.R. Nagaraj, M.N.Dinadayalan, K.C.Amarnath, M.U. Suriyaraman and other committee members.  Students from Shevapet area participated.

Mr. Kharventhan, Ex. MP Demanded to Sourashtri Research Bench


New Delhi.  Apr. 4.  Mr. Kharventhan, Palani Constituency Member of Parliament demanded to UGC (University Grants Commission) to assist Sourashtri Language Development Research works.  Mr. K.R.Krishnamachari's letter was forwarded to UGC  Chairman Shri. Ved Prakash, by Mr. Kharventhan.

SOLAR (Sourashtri Organisation for Learning and Research) is the organisation based from Madurai.  It working with University of Saurashtra in Rajkot Gujarat.  Further this organisation needs to Madurai Kamarajar University is include Sourashtri language as one of  its research bench.  SOLAR is in Sourashtra language research along with Sanskrit Since the classic Sanskrit Language also has its roots in old Prakrit Language Sauraseni.  Sourashtri is decendent of Sauraseni Prakrit Language.  This forward letter also to Vice Chancellor of Madurai Kamarajar University, Smt. Kalyani Mathivanan.

We expect more Sourashtri development results soon.

Salem VeNpattu (White silk) Dhoties Got GI



Silk weavers in and around Salem, toiling for years to produce some of the finest silk dhotis, shirts and angavastrams, can now rejoice as their long-pending demand of getting national recognition for their silk materials has been granted.
Salem’s unique brand of silk clothing, known as ven pattu, has received the Central government’s Geographical Indication Authorised User Certi­ficate, according to the Geographical Indications Act 1999 Rule 2003, paving the way for more sales and better recognition for this silk.
Seven weaving societies located in and around Salem city — Salem Silk Weavers Cooperative Society, Rajaganapathy Silk Weavers Cooperative Society, Sowdeswari Silk Weavers Cooperative Soci­ety, Super Silk Weavers Cooperative Society, Sourashtra Silk Weavers Cooperative Society, Dr Puratchi Thalaivi Silk Weavers Cooperative Society and Ammapettai Silk and Cotton Weavers Cooperative Society — have been accorded this recognition.
Commenting on the recognition, ex-president of the Salem Silk Weavers Society P.V. Shantaram said this would give a boost to the 3,000-odd weavers and practising the trade for generations. “We get orders from the US, Sri Lanka, Malaysia, etc. for our dhotis and shirting. We expect to see a rise in exports,” he said. The weavers had applied for GI recognition in 2005. “Now, we have received a confirmation from the Centre that Salem silk is special,” he added. The turnover of Salem ven pattu (White silk)  is estimated to be around Rs 25-30 crore.

Personality Development & Matrimonial Problems, Chennai discussion


For a long time Sourashtra Cultural Academy (SCA), Chennai, was discussing about sensitising our youngsters to venture into Govt.administrative services. It was given a shape and was conducted as an interactive discussion with the guidance of Dr.K.R.Shyamsundar I.P.S., Former Director General of Police, presently CEO, IPS DETECTIVE AGENCY & SECURITY CONSULTANCY SERVICES, Thiru S.S.Jawahar I.A.S., Principal Secretary to government / Commissioner of Museum,Arts & Culture and Thiru. T.N.Ramanathan I.A.S., Commissioner of Indian Medicine & Homeopathy department along with Dr.V.P.Ramamoorthy, Managing Trustee, Dhanalakshmi College of Engineering, Chennai 601301 . The meeting was held on 25.12.2012 at Dhanalakshmi College of Engineering. About 400 persons comprising students, parents needful of guidance for higher education, job selection and alliance seekers participated. Dr.V.P.Ramamoorthy and Smt. Dhanalakshmi with a philanthropist heart offered not only the space for conducting the meeting; but also transport facility and food for the whole day to all the participants.
The meeting started with prayer by Selvi Janani. Thiru.S.N.Thiagarajan, General Secretary, SCA welcomed the gathering. Dr.V.P.Ramamoorthy delivered the inaugural address. Thiru.K.K.Dinakaran introduced the dignitaries. Dr.J.N.Reddy, Max Academy delivered a useful lecture on Personality Development. Dr.K.R.Shyamsundar,.S.S.Jawahar and Thiru.T.N.Ramanathan jointly conducted an interactive session with the audience. The participants raised many questions on the difficulties they are facing for which they replied with the background of their rich experience.
Thiru.S.R.Eradha, former Minister and Founder President,SCA spoke on difficulties faced while establishing KLN Polytechnic at Madurai. He also spoke on necessity of our peoples participation in administrative services and creation of medical college by the Sourashtra Community a linguistic minority people.
